Learn To Play

This is an introduction to hockey class. No hockey or skating experience is necessary. This program will teach forward skating, stops, starts, turns, backward skating, stick handling through curriculum used by USA Hockey and the Nashville Predators Little Preds program.

USA Hockey membership is required.

Ages

This program is open to all children ages 4 - 12.

When

Learn to Play sessions are 6 weeks and run October through the end of May.

All classes are on Tuesday nights from 6:15PM – 7:00 PM.

Where

All classes are held at Lexington Ice Center.

Please see specific session information to see if your classes are on rink 1 or rink 2.

Extra Costs

Full equipment is required and may be rented for $40 for the entire season (not included as part of class cost)

Skates maybe rented through Lexington Ice Center & sticks may be borrowed (returned after every session, included with class cost).

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my child need to know how to skate before they sign up for the Learn to Play Hockey program?

It is recommended that participants have some skating experience, but it not required to know how to skate or to enroll in a learn to skate program prior to the start of Learn To Play. Participants without skating experience will be taught how to skate and then transitioned to learning other skills as they progress. Participants without skating experience may need to go through Learn To Play for multiple sessions before transitioning to the next steps.

What is the next step after the Learn To Play program?

You will be provided with an overview of next step/transition programs prior to graduating from the program. Most players will transition into our House/FLEX league to continue their development.

Why does my child have to be registered with USA Hockey?

USA Hockey provides a number of resources for the Learn To Play program, including; age appropriate training modules and practice plans, coaching certification and background screening in addition to insurance for all program participants.
