Girls Hockey

Our Vision

Girls hockey is one of the fastest-growing parts of our sport, and the Central Kentucky Hockey Association is committed to making sure Lexington grows with it. We believe every girl who wants to play hockey should have a real pathway to do it — one that starts with a low-pressure introduction to the game and grows into meaningful ice time, real competition, and a team of girls to do it alongside.

Our goal isn't to replace what girls already have access to through House or Travel hockey — it's to add to it. More reps, more confidence, and a girls-only environment at every stage, from a first stride on the ice to competitive travel play.

What We're Doing Right Now

Getting Girls Started: Girls First Ice Hockey Program

For girls ages 5–11 who are brand new to hockey, we offer a free, girls-only Learn to Play program — no skating or hockey experience required. Over 11 one-hour sessions, players get real ice time, beginner instruction, and loaner equipment, all in a welcoming environment built just for them. It's the easiest possible on-ramp into the game.

Building the Next Level: Girls Hockey Program (10U–16U)

For girls already in House or Travel hockey — or aging up from Girls First Ice — we've launched a combined-level Girls Hockey Program spanning 10U, 12U, and 14U/16U. This program is designed as a supplement to what players are already doing, not a replacement, with a focus on development, extra reps, and confidence:

  • Girls-only teams combining age levels (10U–16U)
  • 10 shared practice sessions
  • Split ice time alongside our existing 12U and 14U programs
  • Flexible competition options, including CGHL (Central Girls Hockey League) play, a tournament team option, and independent games against regional programs
  • This program will run once roster minimums are met, so early registration matters — the more girls who sign up, the sooner we can get teams on the ice.

The Bigger Picture

Together, these programs create a clear path: girls can walk in with zero experience, fall in love with the game in a supportive setting, and keep growing with other girls at every level after that. We're building this because we believe in the future of girls hockey in Central Kentucky — and we want every girl who wants to play to have a place to do it.

Play with other girls. Build confidence. Grow the game.
