House League Hockey

The goal of our House League Hockey Program is to teach players how to be better skaters, to learn how to play the game of hockey, and to have fun doing so. CKHA utilizes a core of dedicated coaches to help our players master the fundamental skills essential to be better hockey players, while learning the basics of the game. CKHA House League is the perfect recreational hockey opportunity for beginning/intermediate hockey players.

Lower House (8U)

The 8U House Program is the natural progression for players who have completed Learn-to-Play or Learn-to-Skate sessions and have had the appropriate conversation with the Director of Hockey. The primary goal of this program is to further enhance the skills of beginner to intermediate players, ensuring that they not only enjoy the game but also have the opportunity to advance to more competitive levels in the future. It is important for each player to have their own equipment before joining this program.

The Upper House program is an important phase of CKHA’s player progression model and is aimed at the beginner to intermediate skilled players. It is designed to enhance skill development in all players and to introduce them to the exciting game of hockey. The primary goal is to nurture players and prepare them for progression into more competitive levels of hockey.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between House League, FLEX, Select & Travel?

  • House league involves a range of skills and levels of play with no tryouts. All games are played at the home facility against teams from within the same association.
  • FLEX is a USA Hockey program model that allows kids to play outside of their age classification. For example, in the upper house division, you may see children 9 - 14 years old playing against each other.
  • Select gives more advanced house league players the opportunity to play against kids from other associations. Select teams will typically play at the "B" level, have a limited schedule, and light travel.
  • Travel hockey involves a higher set of skills and level of play, and kids must attend tryouts. Games are played against other associations in the same league. There are usually 2 or 3 tournaments requiring hotel stays.
