Disciplinary Procedure

At CKHA, we strive to provide a safe and positive environment for all of our members, including players, parents, and coaches. We understand that instances of player, parent, and/or coach misconduct may occur, and we want to ensure they are handled in a fair and appropriate manner. We have therefore established a Disciplinary Committee to address disciplinary issues that may arise.

Any member of CKHA can file a disciplinary complaint. To file, complete the Disciplinary Action Report form on the CKHA website. Minor infractions should be handled by the Head Coach or the nearest available coach. To file a complaint, you must have observed a disciplinary issue that was not corrected by a coach, or where no coach was present to correct it, and the infraction must be of a nature that a simple correction by an adult would not fix. If you are unsure whether something rises to that level, you may email the Disciplinary Committee Chairperson or the CKHA Board for guidance before filing.

Once a report is submitted, the Chairperson will review it and determine the appropriate next steps, including whether it warrants a formal inquiry. If so, the Chairperson will inform the committee members of the infraction and delegate points of inquiry to collect statements and supporting facts or evidence.

An informal hearing will be held among committee members to resolve the infraction. If necessary, a formal hearing will be scheduled with the accused, the affected party, and any witnesses. After the hearing, the Disciplinary Committee will propose corrective action to the CKHA Board of Directors, who will then hold a vote. The results will be reported to all necessary parties in writing. Any corrective action not established in the bylaws will be at the discretion of the Board of Directors, informed by the Disciplinary Committee's recommendation.

Certain infractions require mandatory reporting, including fighting beyond a low level, any violation or suspected violation of SafeSport, sexual harassment, abuse of an official, and more. Coaches also use the Disciplinary Action Report form to report any violation of a mandatory nature to the Disciplinary Committee. Reporting through this form does not replace any separate reporting obligation: suspected abuse or misconduct must also be reported to the U.S. Center for SafeSport and, as required by law, to law enforcement or child protective authorities.

Finally, please note that the Disciplinary Committee does not conduct criminal investigations. Any infraction that is criminal in nature will be handled by the proper law enforcement agency with jurisdiction. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911 first. We appreciate your cooperation and commitment to ensuring a safe and positive environment for all members of CKHA.
